Oli Sansom has decided to take a different approach to his 2024 racing season. We caught up with him as he prepares to tackle the 2024 EMX Quad Championship …

Enjoying family time and taking a different approach to achieving optimum fitness levels have been something of a game changer for the amiable ‘Brummie’.

Sansom, and his family, endured enormous pain earlier this year when his younger sister Mel lost her fight against cancer. Oli and Mel enjoyed a very close sibling relationship, and she was adamant that he should continue to focus on his quad racing, while making time for his family.

“I didn’t do much in the way of riding in the off season,” said Sansom. “Instead, I kept myself fit by throwing myself back into training with my old boxing club Aston Amateur Boxing Club. Both the trainers and fighters have really helped me regain my optimum fitness. It was such a tough time losing Mel but having a break away from quads with the Boxing Club, and also Aston Villa FC, really helped.

“I did a spot of training in Spain and spent time with Mark Fowler of Rooster Quad Tours, which is a brilliant set up and I can thoroughly recommend it.

“I then rode at Ironworks. I was using my practice quad and was happy to take the holeshot in the first moto, however, a gearbox issue messed up my weekend.

“My focus now is solely the EMX Quad Championship. It may only be five rounds, which means less racing, but it’s at a far higher level. It’s also great because I can work around family time – my gorgeous daughter Frankie, and girlfriend Becky – and business at home.

“I’m really looking forward to a good fun weekend and getting back behind the gate!”
