SEAL FLYING HIGH IN FRENCH SAND RACE SERIES

December 15 2016.

Former Weston Beach race winner Sheldon Seal is flying the flag for Britain in the highly competitive French Sand Championship this winter and goes into the Christmas break holding a solid top-ten position in the points.

Seal went into last weekend’s third round at St Leger in fifth place in the points table, but although he crossed the line in ninth place, he was docked a lap after his Yamaha failed a post-race noise test, which demoted him to 24th. This leaves Seal in ninth place in the points standing.

"I fought and fought for that ninth place after getting tangled at the start and beginning the race well down,” said Seal. “Then at the end of the race the officials decided to noise check the top three…and me! I was only 0.8db over, but they docked me a lap.”

Jeremy Forestier won the two-hour race on Saturday. He was 1.7s ahead of Jeremie Warnia, who won round two at Hossegor, and who now leads the championship by a single point from Randy Naveaux, who won the first round at Loon Plage. 171 riders have scored points in the series so far this year.

The only other British rider competing in every round is Harry Miller, who was 38th of the 125 starters on Saturday. However, he doesn't score points in the series as competitors need to be a member of a French club and hold an FFM licence to qualify. Harry’s sister, Ameelie, also competed at St Leger, finishing 97th.

The series now takes a break until the New Year when it returns with the penultimate round, way down on the Atlantic coast at Grayan-et-L’Hopital on the 14th of January.

The final round is at the prestigious Le Touquet Beach Race on the 4th of February, which traditionally boasts a big British entry.
