RAW4 QUAD ENDURO SERIES 2017 – Race Report

June 7th, 2017.

Round 3, Ellington Banks, Saturday 3rd June 2017

The third round of the RAW4 Quad Enduro Series bounced into Ellington Banks on Saturday for what was a very different course to the previous two rounds.

Dean Foster

The MOD training area has off-road driver training areas, as well as some great, well-established woodland sections. Throw in the mix some super-fast fire road sections, and the response from the regular quad riders was that this was a great event – and RAW4 is still in its first year of competition!

Laura Linton took the holeshot and tore around her first lap to lead the 4WD Expert class. Stu Marley was out on his new machine and looked to be getting to grips with it fairly quickly. The pair had a great battle for the first hour before Marley made the pass to take the lead. Linton kept him honest though, and only just over a minute separated them at the finish flag. Matt Alberti was the winner of the 2WD Expert class with Graham Guy running an unfamiliar 2WD having lent his usual machine to Laura whilst she waited for her new beast to be delivered.

A fantastic and close battle played out in the Clubman 4WD class when Dean Foster led for most of the race with Nick Key nudging him lap after lap. The pair on identical machines eventually crossed the line with five minutes between them. Both riders were happy but it was Key who took the win from Foster in second. Stefan Cooke, out on a borrowed machine, entertained the spectators with his usual full-on drift technique, this left people turning away on occasions, obviously feels much easier riding than watching! Newcomer Andrew Lawton is still finding his way on four wheels; he took the Clubman 2WD class win when Paul Robinson had charging issues with his machine. Finally, after Rob Dennis had to retire with machine problems Damian Lodge took his Grizzly 550 Farm Quad to the Farm class win.

The RAW4 team are always to get feedback from the quad riders and are working towards RAW4 being a regular feature on the RAW Enduro calender.

The Next RAW4 Event is at Driffield on Saturday July 15th 2017 for round four. Riders can expect to ride another long and flowing lap. Entries are open now via http://www.rawenduro.co.uk/raw4-quad. Quad Membership is still open for those who wish to be a part of the series and be eligible for series points via http://www.rawenduro.co.uk/membership
