Nora-MX QX Championship, round 1, Sunday 24th March, Wroxton
Following a five-year lay-off, Nora-MX returned to one of its favoured tracks. The circuit owner and Banbury Club pulled out all the stops to ensure the track was in top condition and the spring sunshine was an added bonus.Pros; George Day, Harry Walker, Mark McLernon, Tom Day, Jack Holmes, James BevanIn a terrific start to the Nora-MX season, over 160 riders were eager to get out on the well-prepped track to show off their new machines and gear and get back into the quad racing groove. There was much excitement throughout the six main and sub groups, which made for excellent racing throughout the 18 races.
The Pro class kept on-lookers on their feet with a masterclass display of top-notch quad racing, and a couple of photo finishes, from the leading trio of Mark McLernon, George Callaway and Harry Walker. The day went to Callaway who posted 1-1-3 results, with Walker going 2-2-3 in second and McLernon recovering from a lowly 16th finish in the opening moto to take next take second, and then final win of the day (16-2-1). George Day, Belgian Davino Brunell, an on-form Oli Sansom, the Hammersley brothers and James Bevan also put in strong rides and featured highly in the Pro top ten.
250s Open; Robbie Wood, Alfie WalkerFourteen-year-old Alfie Walker took advantage of an off-season growth spurt to charge his 250 around the fast Oxfordshire track. He won all three races and was the only youth racer to clear the uphill triple. He didn’t have it all his own way though as super-Scot Robbie Wood kept him honest, powering his way through the pack to take second ahead of Luke Berlin.
The Masters saw Ed Davies continuing his race dominance but laying claim to all the holeshots as KIK’s Steve Pinder proved he’s no slouch when it comes to firing off the gate. Ireland’s Jonny McKnight was also in the mix, keeping Davies on his toes.
Masters; Darren Bridge, Jonny McKnightThe crammed Clubman class was full of battles and including seven ladies in the line-up, each competing for the ACU British Ladies title - Catrin Davies took three wins from three starts, with Shelley Smart the runner-up in each moto and Georgia Lent rounding out the podium in third each time.
Newcomers in the 50cc and 100cc classes saw a debut from young Harriet Mewse, the sister of MXGP contender Conrad, Finlay Bedding and Morgan Humphreys in the 50s.
100cc open; Alfie North
