HUMBIE TRACK SET FOR SEASON

January 15th, 2019.

Quad riders are invited to try out the all-new Humbie MX track, near Edinburgh, this Saturday, the 19th of January.  Created last Autumn by world-renowned track designer Johnny Hamilton, the mild and dry weather has allowed track owner James Nisbet to get ahead with putting in place the features and facilities needed to the make it race-ready. Fellow Scots Hamilton and Nisbet have been working closely together on the project, based in the field next to the original Humbie MX practice track.

The venue, surrounded by trees and renowned for its apparent microclimate, has been designed for racing, not just practice, with spacious areas for spectator parking and viewing, and catering alongside a paddock suitable for a fleet of race homes.

“This is one of the most exciting projects I’ve worked on in a while”, commented Hamilton, “The natural contours of this packet of land are just made for a quadcross and motocross track. James asked me to sculp a challenging, technical race track, fit to host British Championship level events for both disciplines. It was a joy do so, without having to shift masses of soil. The natural valley through the middle allowed us to create, for example, a 100 meter jump, by raising the edge only a metre or so.”

Track principal James Nisbet agreed, saying, “My aim is to provide a venue that can accommodate the needs of good events, that will stretch the top riders while at the same time not be too daunting for the midfielders. We have had a couple of riders test the track already and feedback has been really positive”.

2018 Scottish Quad Champion Murray Graham was among the first to test sections of the new track, while it was under construction last year when he commented on social media: “Over the moon to have been asked to ride the all-new Humbie MX track. What a job you’ve done Johnny Hamilton - Up there with the best tracks in Britain!”

Last weekend fellow Scottish Quad Champ Michael Brewis tested the whole track, and gave it the thumbs up, saying: “I love the variety of jumps and the fact they are safe. The track’s wide with good soil and surprising few stones considering what next door was like. The rhythm section is great with three different ways to do it. And the sand corner mixes it up a bit…. there, you’ve got to be patient on the throttle!”

Quads invited to Humbie on Saturday have the chance to make a weekend of it, as on the Sunday, Ecosse XC is running Round Two of the Winter Series a few miles further east of Humbie, at Tyninghame, offering a flat field sand track, suitable for beginners and experts alike.

Host James Nisbet continued: “We want to showcase the track to potential quad and solos riders before the season starts, so there will be other opportunities too. But we will only run for a limited number of days each year, so most of our dates will be given over to race days, if the initial interest we’ve had from organisers is anything to go by.”
