HOLMES RECLAIMS BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

October 9th, 2017.

Round 6, Sunday 8th October, Canada Heights, Kent

With just one point separating Paul Holmes from Mark McLernon, the British Championship was set to go to the wire when proceedings got underway yesterday at the challenging Canada Heights circuit in Kent.

An on-form Holmes was focussed for the final. He produced a flawless performance in the autumn sunshine to grab the title back from Ireland’s McLernon.

Holmes set the pace in qualifying, with Leon Rogers just 0.8 seconds behind and McLernon a close third.

In the first moto, 18-year-old Dafydd Davies got off to a flying start and led Stefan Murphy and Leon Rogers for the first few laps. Lap three saw a change in fortunes when Rogers moved to the front with Holmes and Murphy chasing. However, it was further back in the field where the championship was really changing as McLernon suffered from a mechanical issue towards the end of lap four giving him a very unfortunate DNF and turning his one-point lead at the start of the day, to a 21-point deficit. Rogers took the win with Holmes second and Murphy third.
