CHEGGERS PLAYED QUADS

Sad to see that Keith Chegwin passed away earlier this week. You may be interested to learn that Cheggers played his part in promoting quads in the early days.

Suzuki introduced the original LT250R Quadracer back in 1984 and Suzuki in the USA snapped up the full production quota for 1985. Suzuki GB managed to steal just six machines from the production run and hired me to run promotional events in 1985 and to negotiate acceptance of the four wheelers into whatever racing association we could.

I managed to get a slot on Saturday Superstore live from Margate beach, where we laid out a short track and showcased what the quads could do. Cheggers then interviewed me and we set him off on a ride on the Suzuki. He did ok to be fair and stayed around for a chat afterwards. He was the same cheerful character off-screen as he was on.

On the following Monday morning, the phones were ringing non-stop...

Thanks Cheggers...
