ATVS ONLY MCF BRITISH XC CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 1 RACE REPORT

31st March 2019, Coney Green Farm, Stourport

The first round of the Dragon Quad Racing ATVs Only MCF British XC Championship, in association with GML ATV, took place at its familiar home of Coney Green Farm in Stourport-on-Severn on the last Sunday in March.

A delighted Luke Davies wins the Expert + class

The club put considerable time into building a challenging track for the riders, adding in some new never been used before sections, to kick-start the season. Its efforts were rewarded with a bumper turnout of quad racers across all classes.

Racing got away at a 9am sharp, with the younger competitors eager to get stuck in for their one-and-a-half-hour morning session, after a long winter break. Nineteen youth riders took to the start line - Alfie Walker, in his first time out with DQR, won the 250 Hybrid class after taking an early lead from Tom Bainbridge and Daniel Barrow. Harry Exley, who moved up from the 125 class, took the honours in the 250 group, followed by Cai Evans in second and James Maybury third. Louie Holt took the 125 class spoils and finished an impressive fifth overall, Morgan Junge in second and Iago Edwards third, rounded out the podium.

The MINI Quad race (sponsored by DB Waterworks) for riders aged five-to-nine-years took place over a shortened course for 30-minutes. Owain Dafydd took the win in the 90cc class, with Harriet Mewse taking her little quad home in first place in the 50cc class.

#151 Luke Forrester was second in the Clubman class

The afternoon’s racing saw over 60 adults line up to tackle the 5.5-mile course with a duration of two-and-a-half hours. Unfortunately, however, just after the start, one of the Expert Plus riders was involved in an incident on the course which called for medical attendance. As a result, the race was red flagged and riders taken back to the line for a restart.

Racing was underway after a short delay and Luke Davies was soon out in front, closely followed by Alex Bethell. Davies Luke eventually took the overall and Expert + win by just over two minutes from Bethell and Josh Waring. There were also wins for Tiago Gomes in the Experts, with Luke Richards in second and Axel Bone third in his class debut. In a packed Clubman class, Olly Martin took the win, Luke Forrester was second and Elizabeth Price an impressive third after a year off. Dylan Mckenna rode a superb debut race moving up from the Youth sector to take his first win in the Sportsman class with Andrew Willcock second and Simon Burnett third.

Jamie Bone took a fourth place finish in the Expert +

Katie Hodgson took the win in the 4x4 Lights picking up where she left off last year, followed by Shaun Wealleans in second and Mark Williams in third. New for this season, the 4x4 Heavy class was split into Clubman and Expert; Neil Martin on his return to the club took the win from Richard Harvey and Bradley Price. The 4x4 Expert class was full of the usual front runners with last year’s champion Simon David eventually coming out on top with Steve Atkins runner-up and Stuart Marley in third.
