Ulster Quadcross Championship. Round 1, 20th April 2019, Tinker Hill, Newry, NI

After a delayed weather-induced start to the season, the 2019 Ulster Quadcross & Sidecarcross Championships finally got under way on Easter Saturday.

Mark McLernon was in dominant form in the ATVs Only Premier Quad class

Quad Racing Ireland welcomed a healthy entry to the scenic wooded track, with tight racing amongst all quad classes.

In the ATVs Only Premier Quad class, Mark McLernon – now well and truly back from injury - was in dominant form with three wins from three starts, whilst Leon Rogers took the runners-up slot and young Dean Dillon posted his best-ever result with third overall. Former British and Ulster quad champ Justin Reid was fourth, David Cowan fifth and Aaron Haslett rounded out the top six.

Jack Young won the Clubman class

The Gilchrist Plant Hire Clubman’s Support Class had a great entry and a good mix of youth and experience. The class was dominated by Lisburn-based Young brothers, with Jack winning the overall from brother Dean. Josh Crozier and Ben Carey were third and fourth with Jamie Quinn and Kyle Orr next up in fifth and sixth.

In the supporting J&L Race Prep/Lloyd Acoustics/Stephen Russell Youth Quad Classes, the 250 group was won by Alfie Walker, ahead of Andrew Black, Mitchell Adams, Ross Dillon, Ian Harron and Josh McKight.

The 110 win was taken by Bobby Harron with a narrow margin of four points ahead of top girl Chloe Gibson. Third was Harry Minish.

William McPolin won the 50cc auto class

The 50cc auto class was won by William McPolin from Rory Farren and Jake Murray.

The next round of the championship is at Tandragee on the 11th May. With the British Quadcross Championship scheduled for the same track just two weeks’ later on 25th May, this will be the last chance for a little track recce prior to ‘the big day’.
